Tipped to take over the Scots . . . Scott Johnson

Scott Johnson is in line to take charge of Scotland on an interim basis as the replacement for Andy Robinson.

The Australian is set to be appointed as head coach on a temporary basis with an announcement expected before the end of this week.

Scotland have been without a head coach since Robinson resigned on 25 November after a string of poor results which culminated in a shock 21-15 defeat to Tonga.

Johnson looks set to be in charge for Scotland’s opening Six Nations clash against England at Twickenham on 2 February.

The 50-year-old was part of Robinson’s coaching staff and has previous international coaching experience with Australia, Wales and a short spell in charge of the USA.

He spent three years as director of coaching with RaboDirect Pro 12 side Ospreys before quitting to take up the role with Scotland earlier this year.
