As the Rugby World Cup countdown enters the last few hours, England and Fiji are going through their final preparations. The rugby playing world will focus on Twickenham on Friday night but the Fijian players’ ultimate attention is elsewhere: on God.

When TV pundits begin their post-match analysis, keep an eye out for the Fijian team. Win or lose, they will gather to pray.

Christian Today visited the squad at their team hotel in Surrey and found that behind one of the most aggressive, physical teams in rugby, the Fijian players are united by a deeply held Christian faith.

Vereniki Goneva and Nemani Nadolo will line up in midfield for Fiji when they take on Wales in Cardiff on Saturday.

Head coach John McKee has made four changes in all to his backline, with Goneva and Nadolo joined in the starting lineup by Waisea Nayacalevu and Josh Matavesi.

Fiji have welcomed back Leicester flyer Vereniki Goneva after a visa issue forced him to miss the Test against France in Marseille.

Goneva is now available for selection against Wales with Ospreys centre Josh Matavesi also returning to the squad to take on some of his regional team-mates.

“Josh Matavesi has rejoined the squad following injury and Vereniki Goneva has also joined the squad,” McKee told The Sport Review.

Leicester Tigers came from behind to defeat Exeter Chiefs 24-20 at Sandy Park, England scrum-half Ben Youngs scoring the winner.

The Chiefs dominated for large parts, but the Tigers kept their cool to record their second victory of the season.

Exeter dominated early on, and capitalised on the sin binning of Vereniki Goneva to take the lead.

Leicester boss Richard Cockerill admits he was not surprised by Vereniki Goneva’s fast start to the new Premiership season as the Fijian helped himself to a hat-trick in Leicester Tigers’ victory over Newcastle.

Despite four Freddie Burns penalties handing Leicester a 12-3 half-time lead, Newcastle burst out of the blocks after the interval and Juan Pablo Socino – who had added a first-half penalty – converted Richard Mayhew’s try to bring the Falcons to within two points of their hosts.
