Sireli Bobo piled more misery on Castres as La Rochelle cruised home 41-16 to move out of the bottom two at the expense of their visitors.

The promoted side are yet to pick up a point on the road, but on home soil they had already beaten Toulouse, and this win was even more convincing.

Stade des Alpes

Alipate Ratini continued with his scoring tries in the Top 14 league crossing the chalk in the second half to help Grenoble defeat La Rochelle at the Stade des Alpes, running out 30-12 winners.

The right winger used all his pace and power to crash over, and Jonathan Wisniewski’s conversion stretched the lead to 23-9 over a side that had two Flying Fijian backs in Albert Vulivuli at inside centre and Ratini’s counterpart at left wing Sireli Bobo.

FIJI ON THE RWC STAGE

Fiji’s finest hour at the Rugby World Cup unquestionably came on 29 September, 2007 in Nantes when, in a ‘winner-takes-all’ clash to decide who would join Pool B rivals Australia in the quarter-finals, they upset all the odds to defeat Wales 38-34.

Just when it seemed like Martyn Williams’ try seven minutes from time would be enough for Wales to thwart Fiji’s attempts to make the last eight for the first time in 20 years, up popped prop Graham Dewes with what proved to be the all-important score. While it was a sad way for Wales captain Gareth Thomas to mark his 100th cap appearance, everyone connected with Fijian rugby was beaming from ear to ear.

Picking up where they left off against Italy last week, Fiji ran in six tries in Luatoka.

Four of those went to two players, with Watisoni Votu and Sireli Bobo both scoring twice along with tries from Akapusi Qera and Nemani Nadolo.

Blockbusting Flying Fijian inside centre Nemani Nadolo has been given the nod to kick penalties and conversions against Tonga in their opening encounter of the Pacific Nations Cup at Churchill Park tomorrow.

Reigning champions Fiji coach John McKee said Nadolo would be kicking from the beginning of the match and has gained a lot of confidence in his ability after a 100 percent effort against Italy last week, successfully slotting in two conversions and two penalties.

“He’s kicking well at practice and he’s gained a lot of confidence from his game last week,” McKee said.

Tongan skipper Nili Latu admitted that Nadolo was a special player and was aware of his kicking ability while playing with him in Japan and would not want the Tongan team to be penalized in Fiji’s half.
