The halves combination is one of the most important aspects of any team whether club competition or the highest level in the Rugby World Cup which kicks off tomorrow night in Tokyo.

Coach John McKee has not been coy about his choice at number nine with Frank Lomani debuting in the global showpiece which the Savusavu native deservedly merits with his exploits on show in the last November Tests in Europe and the last couple of Pacific Nations Cup series.

Volavola comes into his own

New Flying Fijian flyhalf Ben Volavola came into his own in the 13-28 loss to Australia at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff early this morning.

Volavola’s sliced through the Wallaby defence and powered over from 20 metres out to score under the cross bar in the 60th minute.

The Crusaders bound flyhalf had overcome the jitters of the big stage fumbling his first high ball against England at packed out Twickenham Stadium last Friday night in the opening match of the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

The naming of Ben Volavola as flyhalf by head coach John McKee against England in the opening game of Rugby World Cup 2015 means Fiji will be looking at an all out attacking game.

Volavola who looks more fragile on defence looks good on attack with deft handling and kicking skills to complement the hard running centres Gabriele Lovobalavu and Vereniki Goneva.

Joining in the attacks will be fullback Metuisela Talebula who is lethal joining the centres with his abilities in scything through defences to open up running lines for the wings.

Crusaders-bound test rookie Ben Volavola fully justified his selection at fly-half with an impressive display of goal-kicking that brought him a personal haul of 15 points through three penalties and three conversions.
