Clermont wing Napolioni Nalaga will miss Fiji’s November Tests against France, Wales and the USA due to family reasons, Fiji coach John McKee told AFP on Sunday.

The prolific 28-year-old has scored nine tries in 16 internationals for Fiji, but won’t be adding to that this winter.

“He expressed that he didn’t want to be considered for this tour,” said McKee.

Newly named Les Bleus and South African born Scott Spedding could be donning the number 15 jumper against Fiji at the Velodrome in Marseilles on Saturday.

The 28-year-old Bayonne fullback replaces the injured Brice Dulin and already has an upper hand with main rival for the position Maxine Medard.

Medard is struggling to be fit with a groin injury sustained from his club game with Tolouse in the Top 14 last weekend.

The Barbarians outclassed Fiji 43-19 in an entertaining match played in front of a near 70,000 crowd to mark the Islanders’ centenary.

It was a match played in great spirit, with both teams exhibiting the running rugby craved by the Twickenham supporters, and some of the game’s greats showcasing their silky handling and offensive prowess.

All Blacks coach Steve Hansen is relishing the chance to work with some of his under-used players as he prepares the Barbarians team to play Fiji at Twickenham on Saturday.

Eight New Zealanders feature in the 23-strong invitation squad to celebrate Fiji rugby’s centenary, and the match will allows Barbarians coach Hansen a chance to further develop a handful of All Blacks players who played little or no rugby during their season-ending tour.

Veteran hooker Keven Mealamu and first-season All Blacks Charles Piutau and Steven Luatua are joined by five others who took no part in the Tests against France, England and Ireland this month – namely wing Frank Halai, utility back Tom Taylor, loose forward Luke Whitelock, lock Dominic Bird, and uncapped scrum-half TJ Perenara.

Fiji jumped two places to 11th spot after the side defeated Romania over the weekend.

After stalling on the 13th spot for several weeks the side leapfrogged over Italy and Tonga to gain the best rankings after the slump in form since the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand in 2011.

Fiji will be playing their last European tour match against the Barbarians at Twickenham on Saturday.

In the fray for top rankings, New Zealand finished their season as the number one side in the World Rankings, an increase of 3.73 points to their rating for the fourth year in a row.
