Fiji restored some sevens rugby pride after shutting out Kenya 12-0 to clinch the bronze medal at the Nanjing Youth Olympics in China.

Alipate Qaraniqio opened the scoring for Fiji forcing himself forward under the crossbar from a penalty five metres out which was converted by Waisea Daroko to take the lead in the first half at 7-0.

Filipe Qoro scored a try wide out after a 40 metre run through heavy traffic to bring the final scores to 12-0.

The Fijians put in a better effort from their past four-loss slump; tackling with purpose and looking sharp with their passing and handling.

The communication between the players was much more evident as they worked as a unit shutting out any threat from Kenya and had speedy winger Edgar Khafumi totally immobilized.

The gold medal was won by France 45-22 with unbeaten Argentina coming undone and having to make do with a silver medal.

The women’s gold was won by Australia who defeated Canada 38-10. China defeated the US 12-0 to win bronze.
