London Irish could be set to exchange one member of their back three for another ahead of the new Premiership season.
Samoan international Sailosi Tagicakibau has returned from his loan stint with the Stormers in Super Rugby, but has not participated in Irish’s pre-season training so far.
Once regarded as one of the premier wings in Europe, Tagicakibau has struggled with injury in recent years but impressed during his loan spell in Cape Town earlier this year.
Even though he has a year left on his contract with the club, his current situation is bound to put other teams on alert.
Former Gloucester full-back Martyn Thomas has joined the club on trial and impressed during last weekend’s win over Montpellier.
The 27-year-old left Kingsholm after being released and could provide Irish with some necessary cover at full-back, where Tom Homer is the only specialist 15 following the departure of Australian star James O’Connor.
GetReading have additionally reported that the futures of number eight Jon Fisher and scrum-half Pat Phibbs are also uncertain after both players were left out of the squad photograph before the new season.
Fisher has been sidelined with concussion while Phibbs suffered a serious foot injury over a year ago in a pre-season match against Wasps.
