Fijian on bench in Currie Cup matchup

New Falcons signing, Fijian Akuila Nawecagi, will join the team this Friday in their Currie Cup Round Three clash with the Boland Cavaliers at the Bosman Stadium, Brakpan.

Nawecagi, who is the protege of legendary Fijian Sevens player/coach Waisale Serevi, will hope to make an impact coming off the bench for the Falcons as a utility back.

The Fijian flyer, Nawecagi, played Sevens rugby for Fiji in 2005 – the same year that he made his first appearance on South African soil – in the Griffons’ Under-21 squad.

He played Vodacom Cup rugby for the Griffons last year and moved to Durban this year, where he was part of the initial Sharks Super 14 squad, but failed to make the final cut.

However, he had a couple of outings for the Wildebeest team in the Vodacom Cup and has now been released to join the Falcons’ Currie Cup squad.
